I do live in the present and don't often sit back reflecting on my life.
We are all human and im sure we all reflect on chapters of our lives ..
Some great,Some bad and some memories that are our best ones.
Weather its a best memory of family,loved ones,lost ones and all of life and love.
Family is most important to me and im sure many peoples best memorys are their children and their family.
I never have been married and i don't have any kids so of course there's no memory to share.
I joined the Royal Australian Navy at 17 years of age..By day 4 i hated everyone and thought id made a huge mistake..It turned out good..
In my 6 years of service i had traveled to so many countries,i had great times,bad times and served in 2 conflicts.
Those 2 conflicts were very scary..1 conflict was so horrific that made me see just what men can do to each other and how heroic men can be under the worst situations.Also bearing witness to what humans do to each other that the press and media harldy showed..I wouldn't want my family to of seen the evil done where i had been..Its something only Veterans can understand..To never want to ever tell those stories to anyone..
And Hollywood movies never can never really get it right..
But i digress..
I recently went to a Navy reunion and had caught up fellow ship mates that i hadn't seen in years.
Though i have kept in touch with many and marched with them on Memorial Day..A.N.Z.A.C Day.
That night we swapped stories,laughed and i hoped that night would never end.
I'm man enough to admit that i shed a few tears listening and sharing stories...Some so bad i had forgotten and most never will be erased..
But we are not war mongers..We were just so young and served our country doing more good.
After that reunion i came home and sat down thinking...
Those guys are like brothers to me and besides the bad things i finally realised that the Navy was the best time of my life..We were young,we treated our bodies like an amusement park on liberty and shared the best times of our lives...
