Having a moment pondering something yet again. Often wonder about this...
Where are the fathers....?
In my house tonight there are 6 children and young people of whom 2 have a dysfuntional relationship with their dads, one has no relationship at all, one has just been removed from the person that should have kept her safe and two will never know their fathers. Half of them have been placed here by court order. Two of them are young people navigating their lives and have found their way to my home. One is my own daughter - one of those who actually have a sort of relationship with her dad, albeit stained.
Numerous studies have shown the impact of being fatherless has on children and therefore on soceity as a whole. How did we get here...? How do we change it? Have we emasculated men? Have they just walked away from being men (husbands and fathers)? Have they ever been? Are we expecting too little from them (boys will be boys)? Or too much? Are women allowing and enabling men to be bad/absent fathers or are we causing it? And now that we ARE here - why is it that women pick up the slack mostly alone? How is it that we can mother another woman's child while men batlle to father another man's...? I get that we are wired differently emotionally - bit it makes sense on a rational level too to step up and change a life? Or not?
