You never think about the smallest things when you are in a war zone till you slow down to smell the roses as they say. Just this morning i was setting out at our break area as i do every morning having my first cup of coffee and watching the sun come up as i do every morning. The thought hit me we have some of the most beautiful sun rises and sun sets here that i have ever saw. It seems the air is clear and crisp especially this time of the year as we go into fall and the mornings are starting to get cooler 70-75 degrees that the sun rises are just much more intense this time of year. And the city light at night from the top of the hill i live on are just gorgeous it is hard to believe looking down at them that there is a war going on with all the lites lit up and the town looking so peaceful but then right in the middle of it all a car bomb will go off or tracer fire will light up the night sky and you are reminded that there is a war going on less than 1000 yard from you so you better keep your head down and your butt covered.
Well here i set in the middle of the second largest city in Iraq in the middle of Ramadan. Well the natives have been quite for a few days only a few explosions in the last day or two so thats good. The few days before it started were interesting to say the least. You could almost set your watch by them 0600 to 0630 at least 3 or 4 incoming rockets or mortars every morning. Well maybe they will be quite for a while and we can get on with the work at hand. The dating world has changed so much in 15 years i don't know if i will be able to get back into it but will try. This is about the only way i have to meet new people since I'm here and the women here are off limits to me because of my position in the company no fraternization with any one in your chain of contact and since i basically have contact with every one in the area its hard. But will see where it goes from here hope to meet some nice women and see what happens but like i said with my situation it will be tough on any one and i understand that so it may get lonely for a while but we will have to see what the future brings.
