This is a beautifully written book about the conflict in its hero between duty and love. The ending is one of the most poignant of any book I've ever read. It was made into an excellent film (Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson) but the book is worth reading, and re-reading, for its great writing and its brilliant unfolding of the tale. I won't spoil it for you by revealing more!
