A notion forwarded by Hume and Rousseau in the 18th century.
Basically, some behaviors are consistent predictable and near universal in their recurrance.
And some of those could be described as moral ethical or "religeous"in their character.
Example:The "hero"whosaves a child at their own peril or the samaritan who tends to a stranger. On the evening news they always say "no time to think about it" or"anyone WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME" Maybe so.
Natural Religeon?
As opposed to the "ADD-ONs" Hume meant Sacrament,Ritual etc.
Natural Religeon can be argued as serving the species.
The rest may be the invention of the Authority benefitting from it.
So Natural Morality is no more than REFLEX.But according to Hume the only religeon needed by the species. Now you can get a feel for it by observing a troop of apes....or people.
Rousseau saw humans as corrupted by their upbringing.
These guys knew nothing of evolution psychology or ethnology.
If David Hume was alive I think he would be a Cultural Anthropologist.
Rousseau would be a hippie in the woods.
What is your view?
cool
