My parents are going to New York for the St Patrick's day parade, and while I know they have some tourist trips booked, and of course, shopping for the ladies, I'd appreciate if anyone can recommend any good Irish bars for them to go to for the parade down 5th Avenue.

Dublin would have been cheaper, quicker and better. All bars over here are Irish.

As he was British why don't they stay in Britain and celebrate here as the craic can be fierce here as well but sorry Yash I know you were looking for sensible suggestions, I cannot help but hope they have a whale of a time.
Personally i have never been to a St Patrick's day parade in New York but one of the best ones i have been to was one in Savannah, Georgia way back in 2004. Heck i never really was that involved with St Patrick's day.
But what are you supposed to buy into when you are both English and Irish??
I would imagine that St Patrick's day in New York would be pretty costly $$$$. Everything up north costs more then down here in the Southeastern U.S. Like i said on another post on here the best St Patrick's Day parade i have ever been to was one in Savannah, Georgia as it was huge and had a very high number of people.

Hi Leem1, They've been to the great Emerald Isle many a time, even had my mum's surpise 50th in Dublin and it was brilliant. They just wanted to do something different,
Hi Elsson, as I mention above, they just want to experience something different, though maybe watch your history, St Patrick was not keen on the Brits (http://www.st-patricks-day.com/about_saintpatrick.html)
Hi Jackson, well you know us Scots will use any excuse to enjoy ourselves I believe they did look into attending one like Georgia, but they are only there 5 days & travel would be too stretched with all the toursit sights they want to see in New York itself. Maybe they will do it in the future, or I might myslef

You don't have to buy into anything really. St. Patricks day is just a day to celebrate all things Irish. People from Ireland or of Irish decent celebrate their history and heratige. It's just a fun day really.

Well as British as was St Patrick we all both sides of the irish sea have a bloody good drink and fun time all around. It is not a problem anywhere in the world, just an excuse to have a good time. Though do not like buying green lager.
