JustLittleMe: If your on the dole? If your offered 2 hours work in a whole week, would that effect your dole?
If the 2 hours are in one day it's counted as 1 day work. If it's spread over more than that.. every day you work even a few minutes is counted as a day's work.
Moneywise... if you are on Benefit (stamps) you lose a day's benefit for each day you work.
If you are on Allowance (means tested) you take the daily rate of pay, deduct €10, 60% of the balance is the amount you lose each day you work.
Zizzles: Your not allowed to work at all if you are claiming dole
why not insist be paid in cash, its only 2 hours a week
Of course you're allowed to work.. as long as you declare it. You get paid for the days you don't work.
Cash in hand is still found out in the end. Inspectors do spot checks on ALL businesses. All employees on the premises are interviewed and checked to see if they are claiming and if they have declared their work.
All employers, by law, must notify when they take on someone. They are automatically prosecuted if they don't!!
ella1976: all i know ,that if your a lone parent we are aloud 19and half hours,,,but dont know about now
You can work full time as a lone parent as long as your gross earnings are under €425 per week. the first €146.50 of your earnings are disregarded as means and anything over that .. a percentage is taken as means.

So that means if she works 2 hours a week each hour on a monday and a wednesday lets say she would get paid 16 euro for 2 days work, She would get more if she claimed her benefit and worked the 2 hours cash in hand, No point in declaring it and working 2 hours a week and not telling the social wont get you caught, I know somebody who delivers pizzas cash in hand works 32 hours a week and claims his social, hes been doing that for 2 years now and hasnt been caught

If she was paid €16 for 2 hours work over 2 days that's €8 per day. The first €10 per day is disregarded so she wouldn't lose anything!!!
And the guy who delivers Pizzas will be caught! And will have to repay every penny overpaid or go to jail!
Although as you claim to be in Co. Down the rules may be different as Irish law would not apply and things may be done differently.
