I found out the next day that he is actually my babysitters half brother down from Dublin for the weekend and he was pumping her for information at the dinner table the next night 
Luckily for me she doesn't like him much and likes me more so didn't tell him anything...phew....from what I hear I had a lucky escape but jeez I'd take the hint if I did what he did and just bow out gracefully with some dignity
