A Scotish Council, (South Lanarkshire), was duped into paying £102'000 to a west African scam pretending to be an approved supplier and informing their bank details had changed..
To make matters worse, the council still had to pay monies due to the supplier, all in a time when councils are due to make big cuts over the next three years to save £90m.
They did try it again with them, but thankfully, they had tightened procedures by then, but it will no doubt have an impact on the whole community..
So heads up people and maybe worthwhile informing your local authority as it is clearly global in its application.
