Hello to all Sask residents! There are a few of us on here anyway. :p How about some pros and cons from each of you about residing in Saskatchewan?

My pros & cons:

Pros - our thunderstorms are great, and things are pretty peaceful

Cons - sometimes a bit boring (depends who you know though), and low wages

Hi Grrr,

Just curious.....wages are low there but i have heard out here in BC that cost of living is less...example...buying real estate is much cheaper than ON, BC and Alberta. Is that true...whats the cost of an average home there?

I'm no expert on real estate as I rent an apartment, so I can only give this as an example:

2 years ago my parents sold their average house in an average neighbourhood for approximately 130k.

A friend of mine told me that nice houses in certain parts of rural Sask are going for cheap.. like 20k, 30k.. in the city, the same type of house might cost 150k or more, depending on the area of the city it's in.

Crappy house in crappy area of Regina - 25k-70k? You'll definitely get what you pay for. laugh

At the rate that the "rich" areas of Regina are growing, it leads me to believe that there is indeed a lot of money in this province, but it's not being put to good use (self glorification vs. improving the quality of life of our low income residents).

Any real estate expert's input here would be most welcome!

Interesting.....Cheap, cheap there......You cant find anything for under 200 hundred in BC and thats homes that need work. More like 300 for an average home here. I here Alberta is much more expensive with the oil boom there.

I live in rural Sask right now and prices are super cheap. Lots of older homes in town are less than 30,000 and a good bachelor suite would go for 200-250 and would include utilities.

Someone I've been conversing with in Scotland pointed out a video created by Regina City Hall called "I Love Regina" which I was not aware of. It's a promotional video designed to encourage people to move to this city.

I'd be interested to hear some feedback on this video, positive or negative. You can find it by typing "I Love Regina video" into google.

My only initial comment is that the video reminded me of the movie version of 1984. Check it out! rolling on the floor laughing

I just have to tell you I lived in both Regina and S'toon, and I still prefer Regina. Yes S'toon has the river, but when I lived there (85-89) they did very little with it. I actually was a real eyesore in some places. Plus Regina, is run so much better then S'toon, as far as snow removal goes.
