normalguy68: natural timbers and the colours you get out of them are lovely.
Too bad hard wood is, well so hard to work with

everything that is worth while takes effort, and it helps if you have the right equipment.

I have milled 5ft wide 4 meter long red gum slabs, hard work but well worth the effort. Weighed a ton while wet, but went on to be dried and made into a magnificent table top

Shell225: generally straw combusts if it gets wet. Hence the need for a suitable render.

The walls have a special door built in so that the straw can be checked.

Having lived in 'normal' houses, with rats eating internal walls, possums pissing through the ceiling, termites eating out roofing etc... I fail to see the difference.

Homes need maintanence.
Plus wolves can blow them down.

jem1964: I have actually stayed in a house that was mud brick on one wall, recycled brick on another, and another wall bottom half firewood cords and mud mortar with mud pise above. Inside was timbered with river red gum, floor was recycled bricks which had then been terrazo'd and the fire place was an old sea mine converted to a woodheater.
Big stained glass windows recycled out of a church... ah loved it!

And it was only lived in part time, and was calling out to be loved full time

now that was a house!

i wouldn't mind spending a week in one of those underground houses like in Lightning Ridge i think it is.
