Many actually do have second homes and can come from quite wealthy educated backgrounds, but then the price of pineapples is very much different over there compared to Europe.

Sure some of them do, but not all. There are many wealthy ones, in fact that wealthy they could sort out their countries problems. But how they acquired the money is a different story altogether.
One has to understand the history and the culture in fine detail to make a complete analysis.
