And it all started quietly with a Texan accent. You can't be that quiet all of the time, surely?
So do tell, where is the photo taken of you? I know there are meant to be beaches in Texas...but I fell in lust with Bastrop area... so I didn't venture that far. I did get to Louisiana.. it's beautiful. I only stayed one night though.

I have heard of Galveston, I never made it there. I will have to go back to Texas again one day. The place captured a bit of my heart. The people were friendly, the scenery was beautiful, the food was...er... interesting. It's a shame you drive on the wrong side of the road.
When I was near the border I drove past a skunk that had obviously been hit by a car, then I thought I was imagining the smell. After all, I drove past the skunk quite quickly... If I had a chance I would have slowed down, but ...I drove everywhere quickly. My learning experience that day was to not stop to look at skunks, dead or alive. I will have to just see them on TV.
I will get back there one day... And I will see more of the countryside. There had been a hurricane on the small coastal area I saw and it was not pleasant to be there. Although, it was an experience, so I wouldn't deny myself that.

yes, skunks are'nt something to slow down for...dead or alive...when i was a kid, my grandfather told us all to roll up the windows when he saw a skunk dead on the road...and when we got over it, he opened the vents.. ...he was a corker...
the true jewel of texas, in my opinion and many others, is the "hill country"...two {or so} hours west of bastrop...but bastrop is pretty neat....they're having a horrible fire there now...it has taken near 500 homes...

Skunks are so beautiful to look at. Which is why I may have slowed down. Your Grandfather sounds interesting.
I flew into Fort Worth, and I stayed with a friend for a few days. He was utterly convinced I was going to be an axe murderer, but I told him that customs stopped my axes at the border. And ... I had such pretty axes. Kidding aside, I stayed with my friend to accustom myself. It had been years since I had been in America, and never had I ventured there alone.
A few days later, I hired a car and headed towards Bastrop... the whole area there is beautiful. I drove from Arlington to Waco, turned and went through Cameron, then Elgin.. I stayed at Bastrop for a few days. I also stayed at Giddings too... after driving across the state. I returned to Bastrop to look around there more. It really did capture my interest. It's so beautiful.
