I've been on this dating site and a few others for good while, and I like reading profiles and looking at girls photos etc.
Sometimes I decide to contact them, I always wonder what the hell to write, I mean how do I write in a first mail.
I have contacted many girls before, and I've always gone for introducing myself and telling them a few things about myself, but much of it reflects to what's on my profile really, and alot of the time I get ignored.
So just a question to you all, what do you write in your first mail when you are contacting someone for the first time?

I write something that reflects what is in the lady's profile or photo. For example if we share the same interests etc.

I don't really feel it's a great idea saying too much about yourself in the initial email - think it's better to concentrate on what is in her profile. I know it's very difficult but it's free & if you get a few knockbacks or even ignored you haven't lost anything & there are plenty of females out there.

Good luck

Look for some common ground and start there....

It's a little easier than meeting face to face....at least on dating sites, you can read to see if there is anything in common!

Hang in there, it will get better....wine

To the original poster, how would you normally chat up a girl in a pub etc, just be yourself and let it happen naturally,

Have no shame and do it!

If someone writes and they only talk about themselves, it doesn't bode well for them at all. For all I know, it could be a generic 'copy/paste' mail that's sent to everyone that took their fancy.

If however, it's a mail that makes some comment about MY profile, and what they liked about it, (mainly to show they'd bothered to read it) then explained a tiny bit about themselves, I'd be more inclined to take action on it.

So for example, if I was to send a mail to you OP, I'd ask you about where you've travelled to, and to further your 'What I'm Looking For' section.
Then I'd add a bit of info about myself. Name, what I liked about you and say that I travel extensively, and maybe we'd visited the same places.
