No. I did my time at Fleads when I was a kids. The thoughs of it just makes me remember the warm Cavan Cola mixed with King Crisps fizzing up my nose.

I have missed about 4 or 5 in my life, brought as a child, played and lost and won on occasions. Im from a trad family so this is always a must on the calender.

Great craic, if your in or around Cavan, sure trod along, you won't be disapponted, you don't need to be a trad head either.

johneire31: jaysus, what a heavy yolk to be carrying round town with ya

I hated it. I wanted a button key but my mam lundered me with a massive accordian and I was about 5 stone weight. How I envied the other lads with tin whistles.

the whistle players have it grand, but they are always complaining that they can;t be heard. My brother plays the button box and they are handy enought for carting around. I was grand when I was a kid, the banjo I had was cheap lightweight thing, as I graduated over the years the the weight of the banjo has increased dramatically, pull the arms of my carrying, also in the case is the pickup, the preamp, the cables, the capo, and load of the crap all needed from time to time, makes it heavy work. I reckon i still weigh less than yourself, but not alot in it. Could be worse, imagine being an acostic bass player (the big fiddle) and carrying that thing around or indeed an electic bass, the bass amp weighs a tonne. Always think positive a very negative teacher told me once.

Ha Ha the whistle players can't be heard behind the piano accordion players. Oh yeah the double bass players must love their mothers altogeter! What about the harpists. Anyway I shouldn't complain it got me all the cola and crisps I could consume for years.

is that the cola in the glass bottle with the straw if you were lucky,
nice and warm, i can still remember the caramel taste of it and I don't think I have drank cola for over 20 years, it was never the same in the cans and plastic. the bottles where viturally unbreakable, don't make them like that anymore. Ya Cheese and Onion crisp also, god, you brought back a funny few floating memories there.

Yeah, the Cavan Cola was the vilest when warm. We used to go down to play in a hall in Mullahoran, Cavan once a year at an event organised by Tony Smith (Anton Mac Gabhann). That was the place to get a good sickener going on the CC and KC.

thats great scrapping on the fiddle altogeather

ah im from Connemara, so i was a house thing then a cheoltas thing and and from that on to every fleadh and festival and pub in the country, learning the tunes in the winter months and playing them out in the summer, great old craic too. The cola was soon swapped for the creamy stuff much to my detrament many years latter, still like a good session now and again.

The madness is inherently bestowed up us at the genetic level, experiements have taken place, some undescribable, for many generations and the conclusion of which is 'you can take the man out of Connemara, but alas, you will never get Connemara out of the man.'

It was consider unadvisible to hold experiements to see if you could remove the madness from the Connemara man, to date we have no evidence of it ever happening,

No, I must go and throw some chickens at the neighbours elephant.....

Lol I didn't think that anyone outside of Cavan knew where Mullahoran was.. I was down at the Fleadh Wednesday and Thursday. It is mad busy and there is a great atmosphere around the place.
