justjim63: I can't for the life of me figure out why people still choose to smoke in this day and age? It's a proven killer and it's a waste of money, not only that it's a beauty killer! if i see a physically beautiful woman and i think Wow! then she puts a cigarette in her mouth and i think Yuck! instant ugly..... it's a deal breaker for me, i can't ever see me being in a relationship with a smoker, in fact i know i will never be!

You're right Jim. After smoking for many years it wrinkles the skin in a manner not found in non smokers. It also yellows the teeth and fingernails.
My daughter was amazed at a recent trip to Walmart when I told her as we were leaving that our checker was a smoker. I told her that's what she'll look like in 20 years.

Sorry Scubadiva lives where confiscatory taxation makes the supposedly less toxic smokes so expensive. But it seems true that commercial popular brands do contain much else than tobacco, which as a pure plant product, doesn't seem to have much that's exceptionally toxic when ingested or smoked. Of course, depending on how the leaves are cultivated, there could be all sorts of agricultural chemicals attached, even before things are added at the cigarette factories. At our local food coop we sell a brand that is supposed to be organic, but there's a movement to take these off the inventory list, principally by a small group of unhappy people with too much time on their hands. Of course, who knows how chemically free products listed as "organic" really are? Anyway, anyone who still smokes cigarettes of any sort would be well advised to seriously consider trying to quit. And the evidence seems to supports repeated tries at giving up the addiction-as the number of tries increases, so climbs the success rate. Aaltarboy.

ooby_dooby: I wish to apologies for calling anybody who smokes stupid, it was a harsh thing to say and very judgmental of me. I've been pretty stupid myself for some of the things I've done so I'm in no position to sit in judgement of anybody else.

Without apology, I agree with ooby dooby's 1st post. Smoking is really a dumb thing to do. Funny how Mayor Bloomberg wants to "save lives" by cutting out large softdrinks but doesn't have the guts to ban tobacco. I guess the taxes collected is too much a cash cow for hypocrites like him.

Scubadiva: I wish I could bring myself to buy the better brand with fewer chemicals (Nat Sherman), but they sell for 10 bucks a pack in NJ and that's a bit too rich for my blood. So I smoke whatever is on sale. Somebody has to subsidize the medical care of the uninsured in this state ;-PPP

About the toxicity. Agree, but the same can be said for chemical additives to other consumables. Alcohol is also toxic, flammable and carcinogenic. Like with smoking, it depends on how much and in what concentration you consume it. Moreover, if public health were an issue, then we wouldn't have the lax environmental laws that we have. One doesn't have to smoke or drink to be exposed to extremely harmful substances, but somehow that gets swept under the rug....

Yes You're right there are plenty of other chemicals in our environment that we're exposed to on a daily basis, but why voluntarily put more into Your body that You know are potentially dangerous?
