I think you tried to type your whole post into the heading. 
I never had a relationship that didn't work.
I just never fell in love with someone who was simultaneously in love with me.
Pretty simple stuff here.
You can't logically choose to fall in love. If you don't feel the magic it just isn't there. It's not a matter of logically trying to fix it.
On the other hand if I were in love with someone who was also in love with me, I just can't imagine there being any problem that would be insurmountable assuming that we both wanted to fix it, which we would if we both loved each other.
Most of the problems people talk about in their past relationship just don't sound like things that lovers run into. Sound more like they were never really in love with each other in the first place.

Even looking back on them from a distance you can not imagine being able to do anything different than what you did to get any different results.
My most recent relationship lasted three years and ended two weeks ago. The problem on my end was that I was patient, too patient. I was hoping the issues my bf had would be "fixed" or that if I was loving and encouraging enough I'd help him to fix them.
I'm banging my head in the wall over this one now. Cause I knew going in that no one can change another person, only you can change yourself.
Also if you are not happy with your life as it is when your alone, you're not going to be happy with someone either. Wanting someone to "make you happy" just doesn't work. Thats alot of pressure on them.
I have no idea if I answered your question but thats my two cents for what its worth.
