Once upon a day, not so long ago, in the land of Smoke and Mirrors, lived a humble handmaid, happy in her service to her kingdom. Her life was busy and happy, she loved to watch the Royal Court, the feasting and festivities. The knighted Wordsmith with his clever ways, the Court Jester and his funny tricks, the wise old sage that spoke so clearly and the beautiful sweet princess, Linda.

There were times in this humble handmaid's life, that she thought of how nice it would be to have for her very own, a rogue, to keep her company, to share in her adventures. The Royal court was full of rogues, all different and unique...one had caught her eye, an axe weilding foreigner, from a land on the otherside of the moon. They had chatted and laughed in the stolen moments that her busy life allowed, and she found that there was a certain magic that this rogue wove, his words of feelings and emotion, so very seducing.

Meanwhile in a parallel universe, not so very far away...

Lived a princess who dreamed of love and happiness. She spent her days ruling justly and fairly over her court. She was happy and busy enjoying life in her kingdom with all of her ladies in waiting. She too dreamed of a rogue to keep her company and share her life's adventures. There were so many too choose from but yet she choose one from another kingdom not too very far away. They talked and laughed and spent precious moments together whenever they could.

Meanwhile in the land of smoke and mirrors............

This rogue was clever with his words, he sounded so original to her untrained ears...the lyrics of his emotions, singing in her soul. She found her days were spent thinking of him, this stranger from a strange land.

The Sweet princess noticed the handmade and the rogue, and took her saide to speak. "it seems you have had your head turned there, oh, humble handmaid. He is a good and just rogue, and I see great things for you". The handmaid was ecstatic, for she often questioned what it was, this feeling that she had.

So with bolder strides and longer looks, she gave the rogue her heart, unbeknownst to her though..........

That the princess in the parallel land was hearing the same words, listening to the same lyrics of his emotions, and the singing of the soul. But it was also unbeknownst to the princess.

The princess listened to his stories, listened to his heart, and listened to his soul. She spent hours dreaming of him and wishing for the day when they could be together. She gave her heart to him without reserve. She loved and she loved deeply.

But in the land of smoke and mirrors........

This humble handmaid counted her blessing, and gave thanks to the universe, and the Court, for showing this amazing man to her. She worked and worked, and saved her meagre wage to be able to travel to the rogue, to his land. he was there for her this rogue, he encouraged her to come to his strange land, showing her the joys of what his world would look like.

The old man who lived in the cave, had stopped her in the Courts and gave her a message from the Dragon, "Stay away from the things in the North, and to the right of you there, young maid, I see some dangerous times ahead". She took his words and placed them in her pocket, for surely the old man in the cave was wrong. Her world was full and happy, nothing could take that from her.

In the parallel universe though....

The princess was preparing to travel to the rogue's kingdom. There was great merry making and fanfare, for all was right in the princesses kingdom. The king was overjoyed that his daughter had found such a man as this rogue. For he saw in his daughter's eyes the joy the rogue brought to her. The king had not dared hope to see this joy in her eyes again after she lost her prince in a horrible jousting accident. For years the princess had hidden from love afraid of having it taken from her, so there was much happiness in the kingdom; for their princess once again smiled.

But in the land of smoke and mirrors.............

Princess Linda saw the fleeting cloud of doubt sweep across the handmaids face, and encouraged her to seek her dreams. The Princess knew how Souls that speak the same language gave such joy, as she had just found her Prince.

But the old man's words weighed heavy in her pocket, every step she took, she felt them. She asked the rogue, what could this mean? Was it him that was not true of heart and spirit? Was it perhaps the Dragon had misguided his wisdom?

The rogue replied, "There is no other that I feel this depth for, no other that can bring these words forth from me".

And so with trust and faith, she took her self off back to work, and settled into the rogues warmth.

A message from the parallel universe arrived, with banners and trumpets blarin....The Court was abuzz.... the sad princess from that fair land had found such joy........

The handmaid was happy for the Princes from the parallel land, all good people deserved happiness. The words in her pocket, were heavier now, and she knew what she needed to do.

She quietly waited for a time where such a humble member of the court could speak, asked the parallel princess to speak the name of this rogue that had stolen her heart and give such joy to her.

Was with greatest joy and widest smile the princess spoke his name. For she was to visit this foreign land to be with her rogue.

With sinking heart and frozen soul, the handmaid walked away...the name the princess had spoken was the very same as her hearts rogue.

Now in the Court of Smoke and Mirrors...all three were to appear...

The princess watched the handmaid walk away and knew with utmost certainty that her rogue was the same she had heards whispers of from her ladies. He was the same rogue who had stolen the handmaid's heart, the very rogue who she herself had given her heart to. She turned and fled down into the courtyard seeking the rogue......

As she approached him she saw the hesitation in his eyes.... and in that moment her heart shattered and her dreams vanished, yet still she moved towards him and asked "Does your heart belong to thy maid or does it belong to me?"

Dark clouds gathered and the wind blew. And then............

The handmaid sat with furrowed brow....how could she be so foolish to believe that a rogue so kind and deep of words could see her as any but folly?

Did she take herself and all her broken dreams and flee?

or did the Princess need to know?

She waited till the time felt right and meekly approached the Princess, she spoke the words that broke two hearts, and wished she could say different.

Both the Princess and the handmaid had been true and honest to this rogue, and decided to give him the opportunity to speak. They saw in each other fine and gentle women, and held hands and comforted each other.

The rogue spoke to the handmaid, as gently as he could, with downcast eyes and sorry face, he could not meet her eyes.....

She knew in heart he was not bad, just selfish and afraid, he had the world served to him on a silver platter and could not choose which feast....

The handmaid walked away from him, with heavy slow steps, he did not have the right to take the Princesses heart so glibly, she was a gentle, sincere and loving woman, she deserved a glorious Prince...

So she took her scribe and bark of tree and started writing to the Princess.......

The rogue spoke to the princess, gently and with tears, with sad eyes and crumpled face...

The princess knew he was a good and kind man who had lost his way and as the maid knew too he could not decide which feast to take........

The princess walked away with sadness burning in her heart, the maid should not have suffered so, for she was kind and compassionate and deserved a man of true heart.......

The princess took herself to the river to write a letter to the maid for she knew the pain the maid felt and she hoped to ease it by sharing her pain.......

Dearest Maiden:

I am truly sorry for the pain that has been brought unto you. You are a kind and compassionate woman who should not have suffered so. The rogue has gilded tongue and weaves words so well.....we could but not have known. Fools we were to be deceived so, but the heart is eager to love when it believes it is loved in return. I pray your heart will heal and love, true love shall come your way

She continued to write and as she did the maiden.............

The handmaid wrote and wrote, she put the words of truth into all she wrote....she heard her words as they tumbled to the page, the foolishness, the folly, of the rogue, the Princess and herself.

All were wanting something real, and had forgotten where they were, Smoke and Mirrors, Parallel Universes and the Other Side of the Moon.

She could lose faith, she could be bitter, she could cause sturm and drang...to show this rogue for his selfishness and fear, and have the Court decide. Was not her way, nor the Princess's, she knew that in her heart....so, she wrote a fairytale, a duplicitous one...that would be read by others, and perhaps to hear the wisdom woven in the words...

The rogue, you ask? Is his karma what he chooses.....we all reap what we sow....and sometimes silence is the only way....

People always show themselves..........in the end.

For the princess by the river bank.........

The princess read the words the maiden wrote and saw the truth of what was and is.........

She saw three people searching for love, looking for a dream, taking a chance on what could be, what will never be.....

Did she lose faith? No, she wrote a fairytale with the maid one that would be read in the hopes that others would see the truth in the words and the wisdom....

The rogue, you ask? Yes, Karma will decide his fate....and maybe he has learned something from the women who gave him love......maybe not....but whatever befalls him he has forever changed the lives of the princess and the maiden.........

The truth will always come out.......

And maybe one day both the maid and the princess will get the happy ending they deserve.........
