Our Prime Minister announced that in addition to the $1 billion we already committed, Canada will give an additional $200 million in reconstruction aid to rebuild Afghanistan. While I think that's an amazing effort, I can't help but wonder how, when they are making cuts here at home, in regards to healthcare and education and the rates of welfare/unemployment/workers compensation fraud escalates and they say there is no money?!
Will Afghanistan ever be able to get back on her feet, to the point other countries can stop the financial aid and withdraw their workers?
I so want to hear how or if it's ever going to be possible jess, LOL. Is why I put the thread up. Will she ever get back on her own and not require the aid and workers from other countries? I'm interested in what others around the world have to say, and yes, would love to hear your's jess, honestly.
I don't know that they will ever get on their feet by our standards. I don't think they live by our standards. So i guess I would say that they will keep draining money from us as long as we are willing to hand it out.
Without running into politics, or any high-handed statician's reports, but old fashioned kitchen table wisdom,
Jane, I suspect for as long as there is discrimination, in all it's unsightly tones, intolerance for differences, (and yes, am repeating myself, using different words) religious doctrines, and fanatical political arrogance, Afganistan, and it's people will suffer. (Could insert many country's names there)
Arrogance has a price, and the women, and children, the elderly, and infirm, will suffer for the politics of many countries, including there own.
What dollar price do you put on it? What is the value of peace and safety, for all?
Someone best start printing more money, because as soon as one country is cleaned up, there are plenty of others needing it.
Maybe long after we are gone, they will find a way that is of long term value and with actual results versus printing more money and throwing it into the wind.
No, that is the defeatists way, and what is hoped we will feel. You don't have a defeated bone in your body, and I know you feel the enormity of the situation.
We are the voice of now, and can do something about it. Your vote, your voice, your words are powerful.
We have the right to educate ourselves on the gravity of the situations in many countries, and to ask questions, to learn, and to combine with others that see some solutions.
Start with our local members, move to province, then onto country, challenge their reasoning, together we have a mighty voice that will be heard for generations.
One voice is not a cry in the dark, it is a call to arms.
Ahhh jess, you know some of the basics to me, lol.
While I may not know everything or as much as the next person, on any given subject, I do get involved, get informed and learn what I can about an issue that interests or concerns me. I vote, and only do so after hearing and learning what they have to say on their platform, and what they had to say in the past. I sign petitions, in person or online to issues of concern. I have even stop using a certain product and refused to contribute to a corporation that I know has done wrong. Gee, I even had a thread about KFC, lol.
While I have said I am but a small voice, and the tard's in office make decisions for me, and they lead contrary to what they said in the past, and to what I believe in, I do believe that people are at the point where they are sick and tired, and fed up with things being what they are.
My comment to throwing more money into the wind is not of defeat. I'm too stubborn to lay down or go away, lol. I just don't see things changing in the immediate/near future. Maybe by the time I am in a rocker, the ones behind us have learnt something and carry the torch for us.
