OK, I'm still getting spam from some online dating outfit MONTHS after I canceled with them, so finally this Saturday I got around to calling their 800 number... guess what? The customer service guy got salty with me and refused to erase my profile from their database, and he spouted off some claptrap about company policy.
Funny thing was, I never even submitted my photo with that outfit... so why on Earth would they just want to keep my profile, presumably forever? Makes no sense.
They want to keep your profile on their site so they can claim to have more members. Almost all dating sites do that. When they claim to have thousands of memeber they are counting everyone who joined since they started even if it was only fleeting.
In fact, often times when you send email to member on those sites you are paying to send emails to people who aren't even there anymore!
OH BOY!! I joined a site several years ago, and deleted my profile several weeks later. To many strange people!! I will still get a message from them occasionally,,, your newest matches. I just hit the spam button again; it seems to keep them at bay for about 6 months.
Man oh man... what the rest of you are telling me, is only serving to convince me that my original hunch was right. We singles need a network like CS, where we can kick the jokers out.
