PORTAGE -- The Portage Police Department needs your help in finding a 13-month-old child who they believe is in danger.

An Amber Alert has not been issued because the case does not meet the criteria.

Authorities say Poochie Mariah Brown is with her mother - 43-year-old Theresa White. A family court ordered the child be removed from White's custody due to the woman's health issues.

24 Hour News 8 checked with court records that show Poochie was removed from her mother's custody in October 2006 after White admitted using crack cocaine and alcohol while in her care. Then last month, White admitted drinking beer during an unsupervised time with the child.

White has multiple convictions in Florida, including selling cocaine, theft and assault. She also has six children in the Sunshine State. Her parental rights for five of those kids have been terminated.

The father of Poochie lives in Florida and White has talked about taking her daughter there. That has Portage police concerned, so they have contacted authorities in Florida.

Poochie is a black girl, 2'8" tall, weighing 24 pounds, and having brown eyes and black hair.

Her mother is a black woman, 5'6" in height, weighing 170 pounds, and having brown eyes and black hair, which may be dyed red.

Brown could be driving a purple 2001 Kia Optima with Michigan license plate AFD0702.

Anyone with information with their whereabouts is asked to call police at (269) 329-4567.
