"The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity,
must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation
derived from local discriminations."
George Washington

To be prepared for war is one of the most effective means of preserving
peace.
George Washington

Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and
harmony with all.
George Washington

If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure
peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be
known, that we are at all times ready for War.
George Washington

My first wish is to see this plague of mankind, war, banished from the earth.
George Washington

I wonder what he would think now.......

"I wonder what he would think now......."

First off, he'd probably think "Holy cow! What was that?!!" the first time a plane flew over.

Second, while I admire the sentiment, it's kinda' like the "What would Jesus do?" thing; I mean if George Washington were suddenly transported to the 21st century, he'd probably think he'd gone insane. On the other hand, if he were a man of our times or had the time to adapt and adjust, his thinking probably wouldn't be much different than anyone else's.

You ask a good question, but an unfair one. The world has changed so much in the past 230 years that very little would be recognizable and to simply assume that he'd automatically be the same Mr. Washington who lead our Continental Army to victory just doesn't quite work.

By the same token, if you condensed the world today into something that an 18th century man could wrap his mind around, you'd be over simplifying to a saddening fault.

If on the other we ignore all of that, he'd probably think "Good Lord! A talking box!"

jmo...

It was unfair of me to ask that question, but in my mind I was thinking more on the lines of how we are as Americans today. I wonder if he would be more disappointed in America or would he stand by us as he did then...

Oh! In that case, I think, without a doubt, he would stand by us. He might not agree with everything that's going on or the way it's being done, but he would definitely stand by us - The way he did two hundred and thirty some odd years ago.

And that would make him... An American! (Just like it did back then!)

thumbs up
