Thanks Alida, actually I am having a great morning. I was just having trouble starting to write because I had no particular emotions bubbling away.

no soul to open to the sun,
the sky is nondescript,
awash with dying clouds
from last night's rain,
all light filtered down
through water tinged
with dust, Sahara dust
that clings to skin,
that makes asthmatics
wheeze, eyes burn,
eyes seek release
in tears that will not flow
because there are
no feelings here
no soul all filled to bursting
with great joy, the trees hang
motionless as air itself
has ceased to breathe
birds screech instead of sing
as feral cats weave sly patterns
that promise death
and breakfast
in the shadows of the grass
all richly green and lush
from rain that fell
like tears I cannot shed
because
there are no feelings here.
