Hi guys.
I am probably one of the thousands if not millions in this country that get hit by bank charges every month. I wrote to my bank about them. I received a letter back saying that they think the charges are "Fair," Transparent and Fair.
What do you think?frustrated confused scold

my bank always takes any charges incurred out of my account on the day before the end of the month..in the hope that my account will be close to its limit, and the charge they are deducting will take it over its limit, and therefore enable them to hit me with another charge...devious robbing bankers mumbling

Oh dont get me started on bank charges!! I got the very same letter... they took about a month to review it then said it was fair but they were in the process of dealing with the courts and there was no point on going to a lawyer until the courts settled it. Something along those lines anyway. Pile on crap!

I will not rest until i get it back though. As if the banks dont earn enough!!

For all you guys who want to take on the banks/building society's about your bank charges, the website that rocks is consumer action group...it takes time, dedication, determination and perseverance, join the consumer action group and they give you all the latest news and legalities about your particular bank/building society and the charges they incur.

I got my charges back for the last 5 years. (remember it's different legislation when it comes to England and Scotland etc but sometimes these are waived for example someone perhaps living in Derby who has an account with the RBOS), but as I said the consumer action group will keep you right on all of that.

If you go for it, keep your chins up and DON'T give up after the first K'b, it's like men and women reallly! lol

Best of British to all those who give it a bash.

Blimey.... don't get me started!!! If you have been keeping abreast of this issue you will be aware of what has been featured on the media. These bank charges are being tackled by the Financial Ombudsman and is, in fact, due to go to court in January (the schedule may change, of course). This is because the charges are deemed as not proportional to the actually admin costs to send letters out, etc. For example, a letter will probably cost more in the region of 35p rather than £35.00!!

Check out Martin Lewis's website. It has a multitude of different consumer issues, this one being covered in great depth. He is the consumer's saviour in recent times and his site gives a step-by-step guide on how to tackle this in order to get your charges refunded.

It starts with insisting your bank give you a detailed statement of the bank charges you have incurred over the last 6 years..... then take it from there, its all very self-explanatory.

The banks are very worried indeed at the moment over being taken to court as there have been thousands now that have won there case. So far, there is only a record of ONE not being successful. So they will bend on this but you have to be firm and insistent! Don't be white-washed or brow-beated.... stand your ground! If they believe you to be serious, they will most likely comply.

My bank have now refunded them each time I have gone in to complain and I have even been told that every time I incur a charge, to 'phone them and they will refund it immediately. They have done this because they know full well I am perfectly within my rights to claim for the past 6 years!

You can get results..... good luck folks!! thumbs up

Money savings expert website while it does give you some info, the Consumer action Group are much better equipped to help you with reclaiming your unfair bank charges, they have the better templates and legal advice as well as the morale support from the others who are doing the same and there are some very wise owls on the consumer action groupm Martin Lewis gives you the basics and that's pretty much it, Consumer action group gives you the various stages you have to go through to fight with the banks....

Get your claim in now, then use the consumer action groups timetable and hopefully you'll be able to claim some of it back at least
