For those cineastes who have respect for Bergman, here is what Bergman said about Tarkovsky.
“Tarkovsky is for me the greatest, the one who invented a new language, true to the nature of film, as it captures life as a reflection, life as a dream.”

I was thinking of the film "Stalker" for starters. It's a 1979 film about the Cold War and the spiritual vacuum of Totalitarianism.
