Reality? or an illusion of perception? ( Archived) (14)

May 6, 2006 12:27 AM CST Reality? or an illusion of perception?
If 10 witnesses see a crime or accident happen, there are always 10 versions...if asked for another statement a week later there may be 20 versions. So, obviously people can't actually SEE! They perceive, and each has their personal perception. All those different perceptions/Illusions....There can be only One True version...the one that needs no defense..
In a Shared Now, we may have a common experience....
Wanna? Ahare the potential Reality of NOW?

"...if asked for another statement a week later there may be 20 versions. So, obviously people can't actually SEE!"

I don't think it's a matter of being able to see. I also don't even think it's a matter of what they actually experience.

Most people would rather make something up than admit they don't know something.

I think the scientific method has proven this fact. When scientists make observations they do so very carefully and meticulously. Scientists are humans (believe it or not), and if they didn’t all make precisely the same observations all over the world they would constantly be arguing about the established laws of physics. This doesn't happen except in the case of crackpots which reverts back to the idea that some people are bent on making things up rather than admitting that they don’t know something.

However, having said all of that, it is probably true that crackpots experience life differently than earnest people do. So in that sense reality is an illusion of perception to some people. ;o)

But that's not the nature of reality. That's just the nature of some people.

Just my late night thoughts.

Its simple, those ten people have there own perception of reality. Some even question if live is reality and not an illusion.

maybe...a person's mind...connects the dots. fills in...the spaces that weren't actually SEEN...and each person sees things just a tiny bit differently...

each of us is coming from a different angle...a different perspective. we all...look for different things in our environment...based on our life's experiences. these things affect how we perceive...

the difficulty is getting PAST these preconceptions, and moving on to the true reality.

Perhaps the only possible actual reality would be the result of a shared NOW, a common Vision instaed of a "unique" separate perception?

"There can be only One True version...the one that needs no defense.."

If I have 2 people on opposite sides of me and my hat is a different color on each side, who has the "true version" of color?

There can be many true versions or none at all.

Huh? What?

I'm sorry hon, I wasn't paying attention to what you said. I'm looking for my book on "How to communicate with a woman", did you happen to see it anywhere?

articulate great thread really, or is it smoke an mirrors...generally i think people think to much in black an white, i. e. what do you think of that....its good...its bad.......rare to ear well i think say 25% its good, 50% bad, 5% dont know,20% indifferent, so.... 'Reality? or an illusion of perception? Lets pretend their are many types of view about it...if all the foundation as infinite nuonces
then whatever happens on the foundation may not suprisingly be complex....21st century it may be one way a cited example that is, though 17th century comapible example completely different, how many times you been completely missunderstood through no fault of own, humans on earth with nature complex.

Thought:

Since mirrors were mentioned, let's use them as another example. The way they worked when egyptians created them from silica and brought light into the pyramids works off the very same reflective principles as today. Nothing to misunderstand in that respect whatsoever. The laws of physics haven't changed since then, just proven with more scientific evidence. Unless I misunderstood your 17th to 21st century comparison, there's nothing that's changed whatsoever in the timeframe, or the fundamental knowledge on how said item in question works - it was just improved upon and is highly complex now compared to then.

~ The Magical Illusions of Physics ~

~~~
I have studied physics
from a very early age
yet I'm open to the magical
like any other sage
But throughout all my travels
I've come to some conclusions
about the necessary circumstances
that must accompany illusions
The laws of physics hold
whether we imagine them or not
so if the universe is magical
its magic's held within this plot
Of course there'll always be
different vantage points to see
but those are understood
by scientists like me
This doesn't kill the romance
or moderate the mystery
it simply helps us understand
the course of our own history
To believe that this is wrong
is an inharmonious song
that doesn't belong
and is terribly wrong
and for that, I'll sound the gong!
Goooooonnnnnnnggggggggg!
