Irishminx: Clo, who do you work for?

In Cork unemployment figures have soared since the summer and especially since Xmas. Our queues have increased by 70% approx.

I too pay a mortgage and I agree with you. Plus I am down childrens allowance now given my youngest is 19.

Jeez girl I could go on...........But won't.

It just pisses me off that I (& my colleagues) get a lot of bad publicity from the public when I work so hard. I am really good at my job and am very kind to the people who need to use our service.

I would like some fair play and a little kindness in return!

And Dave, maybe it's you I need to get off my chest!!

Trich I think you can guess where I work.

I too lost my childrens allowance for my eldest this month. We get the same bad publicity and the media fuels it. I read a piece in the paper before Christmas saying that there would be no state funded christmas party last year!!! NEVER EVER have i been to a party,Christmas or any other time, that was paid for by the state.

I would love for those people who think we are lazy, uncaring etc should do our jobs for a month.

what about these banker's ....

Dave,

This is a red rag to a bull here................

I can not believe that we the tax payers have had to bail out AngloIrish.

The banks have known since 2006 that we were heading for a recession, tho I think it is more like a depression, just look at the USA's depression in the 30's, there are a lot of similarities...............

Why not hit the millionaires in this country?!? THEY have the money!

And it was bankers who advised the Government to take the medical cards from the over 70's! Having said that, they picked the group with the most time on their hands! laugh And fair play to the over 70's who built this country, they went out and marched in their bus loads. I congratulate them, because it is a fact that by giving the over 70's a medical card, they are now a healthier group of people, as they do go to the doctor when they need too and not when their illness is chronic, therefore saving the state money!

I feel public servants & paye workers are being scape goated by the Government and unions for what IS the Governments BAD MANAGEMENT of our funds....................frustrated

Sorry folks, rant wasn't over!sigh

Oh and......................

The media says I only work a 35 hour week, want to know how they come to this?

We do not get paid for our lunch hour! That's why!

Also the employment figures the media use for public servants, includes all those on pension too!

While I agree the HSE is top heavy with staff, in my opinion, there are toooooooooooo many chiefs, who have huge salaries and there are NOT enough indians!

Same in all depts as far as I can see.

And the higher ones from Principal Officer grade up..which includes TDs.. have been awarded a pay increase on the same day as the rest of us mere mortals have been told we have to tighten our belts and carry the can for the whole country.

I agree Clodagh, few would do our jobs. Few would choose to do our work, in fact, a lot of HSE staff are from out side of Ireland because Irish people wouldn't work for the HSE because the pay is so low.!

The more we think about it the angrier we get.

I hope there is a strike about this. And I don't normally agree with striking at all!!

If we all stopped work at the same time..All civil servants, teachers, nurses, guards, prison officers, local authorities, healthboards..Can you imagine what the country would be like?

I agree Clo, to a point, but on a very human level, I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage if we were on strike!

Yep, I would worry about that too. Would be prepared to use credit union to cover it though... if it saved me 300 a month in the long run. Otherwise I won't be able to manage my mortgage any month.

Cuts announced last week are only the start of it. It was also said that there would be similar cuts nextyear and the following 2 years.

If we let them away with this lot of cuts we will be below welfare rates in 3 years time. But working 3 times as hard for the privilege.

hi wex .... good rant .. put first prize still goes to minx....
what about these banker's ....[/quote]

At least Obama put a cap on the salaries that the people of wall street could get paid, he told them the max was $500,000. Over here our Government want to ask them to reduce their money by 20%!!!! Hows about our Government put a cap on it too after all we are paying to bail them out for using their bad judgement if that was you or I we would be fired on the spot. If they didnt have to bail out the banks and financial institutions then there might be more money and none of the public servants would need to have their wages cut. In this day and age our Government need to cop on and get real.
Rant over too

Maybe the powers that be, and the public, would realise how hard we work and start to do something to support us rather than use us as scapegoats.

Maybe!!!!

I think that is a fair point but it is an expensive way to make it. Going on strike against a pay cut just after 36 thousand people lost their jobs in January would seem out of touch and probably alienate public opinion.

That seems to be what this Government wants - to get the public and private sectors fighting against each other divide and conquor. Both public and private sectors should be joining together and asking this government what the hell they are doing to get us out of the mess they have us in.
This is only the start of the cuts I only found out yesterday that the DIRT has been increased to 23%.

Are you sure? I heard nothing about that. However, it is only the start of the cuts...this will go on for years
