"they probably all toked, but I am sure it only played a small part in what killed them. Jmo"
My spydy sense is telling me that your suggesting marijuana is a gateway. If sugar was illegal you would see photos of cocaine, guns, cash etc, ...and cocoa puffs.
The government wants to take the toy from a happy meal to curb the obesity problem. Your grandparents were eating burgers, pop, chips etc. The obesity epidemic is recent which suggests lifestyle and food supply. There is such a lack of research and understanding. Check out BPA leaching from breast milk.
I don't disagree that our cherished friends have died as a result of drugs. But I strongly oppose the idea that pot is any kind of culprit. If pot enhances the lifestyle, the lifestyle that is indeed controversial and difficult, it doesn't mean pot killed these people.
A bully game of cops and robbers, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to catch them, yet it goes on. Billions of dollars. It is a health issue, not criminal, therefore people would have more ready access to resources, as opposed to a criminal record.

Agreed, smoking pot does not kill but anyone that goes on to stronger more dangerous drugs have usually started out by smoking pot.
It is not just famous people who have died from drugs. My daughter just died from drugs on Monday so right now I think any type of drug can lead you down the wrong path especially with friends who do the same.

I'm sorry to hear that...I know about that road all too well.. ..half my life was spent in that hell-hole ~ I've been clean for 20+ yrs now, and this includes tobacco, alcohol..

I believe that the only "gateway" provided by marijuana is the fact that it is illegal, and, that many dealers naturally try to induce their clients into using more profitable (and "harder") drugs. An ounce of cocaine is far more profitable than an ounce of weed. Pharmacologically, THC does not lead to any other drug use....it is the social/peer pressure that play a far more crucial role. If cannabis and hashish were truly conducive to the use of harder drugs then most of the Middle East would have forsaken their thousands of years old use of these dtugs for the heroin from the poppy fields. IMHO

Well said Da Moose, In my (generalized) statement I was trying to convey the same message. It is just easier to follow onto doing harder drugs if one is already in an environment where softer drugs such as pot are being used. Peer pressure is a big part of it and many are not strong enough to say no to the option of moving on to the harder drugs.JMO Good to see ya Da Moose

Indeed. peer pressure, the criminalized element, and societal mores all play important parts in this complex subject!
Good to see you too! Just two more days for me down here in the lower mainland before heading back to Alberta. Sure is windy today....but it sure has been nice not to see any snow and actually see flowers in bloom!!!
