How to classify a drama that is a comedy? This is a surprising film by Irish director Neil Jordan that starts out with a soldier (Forrest Whitaker) being held prisoner by a group of IRA militants. During his capture, he develops something of a rapport with one of his captors (Stephen Rea) who contacts the soldiers family after his execution. What develops from there is a quirky series of twists and turns that leads to a surprising ending. I love this film, the acting and direction are superb, and the difficult combination of drama and comedy is carried off perfectly.
