A couple search for each other years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated, convinced that one day they'd end up together.

john cusack (my favorite actor since watching his 80s movies back in the day ) and the very lovely kate beckinsale star in this romcom . its about fate , its about love , its about meeting the right person but just at the wrong time in your life . and about how some times fate intervenes and pushes us in a certain direction .

serendipity is sort of a lovely and happy accident of fate .

so its christmas in new york and cusack is out doing some last minute shopping and buying a present for his girlfriend . beckinsale is in the same store and unexpectedly and unknowingly they both grab the same item . a pair of black gloves . as they are discussing who should have them as there is only one pair (and cusack put them back on the rack ) a man walks up and grabs them . that leads to a funny moment between the two main characters . they then decide to go for a coffee etc and they go to her favorite eatery , which is called serendipity .

they talk and find that they both are dating people ,and beckinsale is sort of not wanting to give much away about her self . but she believes strongly in faith and says if they were meant to be together why are they with other people ? . but cusack just has that feeling that its just meant to be . but beckinsale sticks to her guns and she makes her goodbyes and leaves . at that point cusack a bit down in the dumps is heading home and he realizes that he has left his shopping and scarf at the eatery , so he goes back there . it turned out that beckinsale did the same thing and so they meet again . now beckinsale is sort of thing maybe it is fate ? . so she agrees to go do something with cusack . at some point she gives him her number on a piece of paper all be it she is not really sure she should . the wind blows it away . making her think they are not meant to do this .

cusack does not give up and they decide to sort of put things out there , and if fate is saying they should be together that those items will show them selves to each of them . so she writes her name (sara ) and her number in a book and sells it to an unknown book shop . and he writes his name and number on a 5 dollar bill and puts that out there . the plan ? if its meant to be , if its fate , the book will come to him and the 5 dollar bill to her . they even go into a hotel and enter seperate elevators and say they will each pick a random floor number and if they pick and meet on the same floor its meant to be . they do pick the same floor number however a kid comes in the elevator and pushes all the buttons and so cusack gets to the correct floor TOO LATE . and so beckinsale walks out of his life . the film continues after that a few years into the future .

now cusack needs to find her because everywhere he goes , and no matter what he does fate is revealing sara to him . plus its the day before he is meant to be married , so time is running out . thats all i will say .

its a fun but lovely movie also , its classic romcom , if you love a good romcom well you will love this . its one of my favorites for sure . so the question is will fate and destiny reveal john and kate to one another AGAIN ? will fate bring them together again ? you will have to watch to find out . watch out for the fantastic and ever funny sort of cameo from eugene levy (of american pie fame ) , he pops up and plays a great character , that leads to a bit of dun as you would expect with mr levy . on the romcom scale for me this is high up there , must see for any romcom lover .

I've watched it several times but it's not as good as The Notebook. I'm not sure but I think you forgot to mention that she wrote her number in a particular book and he has to find that book but it's an out of print book.
