Purgatory (TV Series) Movie (2020)

"A group of strangers are invited to Shambala, a remote winter resort, for the New Year's Eve festivities. One person, however, has plans that don't involve celebrating."

This award-winning, 2-season TV series follows the exploits of a dozen strangers trapped in a series of caves as, one-by-one, they are brutally murdered as punishment for an unknown sin that they have committed against the murderer. Meanwhile, above ground, a detective and a distraught father, whose family members are missing, do everything within their powers to find their loved ones.

Slowly, across the two seasons, we learn each person's sin as suspicions are shared, accusations thrown. Slowly the numbers are whittled down, until there are barely a handful of survivors remaining... but still, the identity of the murderer is unknown.

Based on the Armenian TV show Kaveran, Purgatory is an excellent English-language remake that, whilst sticking close to the original, expands on many elements of the Armenian version.

Whilst this is budget a web-series, the locations, cinematography and performances of the main actors, creates a real tour-de-force that will have you eagerly clicking on the next button.

It's a little long - the story could have benefitted from a tighter, 14-episodes, rather than the full 16, but that aside, this is an excellent, suspenseful show.
