The only CD release so far of the amazing soul singer Johnny Johnson and the groups he sang with that always kept the name 'Bandwagon' in the title though at one time it was 'His Bandwagon' as opposed to 'The Bandwagon'. Johnny Johnson is my favourite singer of all time and I feel he is horribly underrated. This compilation isn't a complete anthology and is missing some tracks I think had as much reason to be on here as many of the tracks that were included. However this is still a 5 star release as it contains the most essential tracks which are the album versions of 'Breakin' Down The Walls of Heartache' (my favourite song of all time) and 'Sweet Inspiration' along with 'Baby, Make Your Own Sweet Music', 'People Got To Be Free' and the great covers of the Hollies' 'Gasoline Alley Bred' and The Temptations' 'I Wish It Would Rain'. There are 24 tracks in all and it's a really great listen. The music is uplifting, soothing and motivating and it is extremely difficult not to start moving in time to it. Listening to this is a great way to start the day and is a great way to start a party. I remember being very excited when this was first released and I found it online while I was in the library before I had the internet at home. I asked a friend to order it for me and when he brought it round I was full of joy. I played it through and I was not disappointed with it. I was really pleased to have it in my collection.

About this Music

Despite being virtually unknown in their USA homeland, the upbeat pop-soul of Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon was a regular feature of the UK charts in the late 60s and early 70s.

Consistent touring and promotion of their new releases kept Johnny & Co in the spotlight from 1968 through the first half of the 1970s, and with and without the Bandwagon Johnny Johnson scored more than half a dozen UK Top 40 hits in a four year period considerably more than many of more famous soul contemporaries.

Amazingly, there has never been a legitimate CD issue of the Bandwagons best moments before. Kents compilation gathers together the best of their recordings for the two labels they are most associated with, Epic and Bell, and includes all of the hits and near-hits as well as JJs album-only versions of hits for the Foundations, the Brotherhood Of Man and the Hollies.

Guaranteed to raise a fond memory or two among anyone who ever went to a youth club in the late 60s or early 70s.
