Compared to earlier releases the "Woods 4: The Green Album" was a huge step forward for this talented but barely underrated canadian band. Finally they were recognized world-wide and their album was released in europe. Musicians are always labeled and somehow the passing away of Peter Steele and the disbanding of his band Type O Negative made room for this talented band.
With new album "Woods 5: Grey Skies And Electric Light" they modified their unique style again. Music is more adult, and lyric-wise not so depressed and sad as it seems viewing the cover. Lyrics have a positive attitude, without leaving away the irony one got used to.
Unfortunately it will be David Gould´s testimony to his fans, as he deceased during an car accident in december 2011, right before his album was released.

About this Music

It is with regret that we note the sad passing of David Gold of Canada's Woods Of Ypres. With recording finished on their fifth album last year we were preparing for a a late Winter / early Spring European tour and possible festival appearances later in the year in support of the blackened doom majesty that is 'Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light'.

A fitting tribute to Woods Of Ypres 10 year existence, David had even recently stated that this was the happiest he had been with any of the bands albums and it sits comfortably alongside the best that Type O Negative, Katatonia and Sentenced have to offer.
