I found your thread as interesting because it reminds me something! There was a time 16 or 17 years ago I used to go to museum and to paint some selected pic as a hobby. There I meet with someone who was a student of Academy of fine arts and she used to come for painting also. We got acquainted and I told her that if people praise her I shall be very happy. She replied me “…but if they watch your painting then they will not praise me!” I gave up painting and unfortunately still unable to restart! So fantasizing after clicking “I could do that”.

That was cruel and unnecessary of her And you still can't bring yourself to paint again? That first stroke of acrylic on a virgin canvas... it's great therapy! I hope you give it another go

I don´t understand why she was being cruel by saying that after seeying HIS paintings, people wouldn´t praise HER. Did she not mean that his paintings were better than hers?
If I understood correctly, then I also don´t understand why it put OP off from painting

depends on the museum and the art that i am looking at.
-sometimes i stop and appreciate it -sometimes i inspect it closely, not so much for hidden meaning..but more to study technique or style. if i see work that i really like, it usually inspires me to go home and work in the studio.
again, it depends on the work and the museum.
on a visit to scotland, i loved how the art museums were free to visit. here on the westcoast, it's quite expensive to go into the city art gallery or museum. i think art and museums should be free, so everyone can enjoy them.
another great place to see art, and it's usually free..are churches and cathdrals...usually worth the visit.
when i'm in an art museum and i'm looking at a paint i really like, i study every brush stroke...i have'nt been in awhile...i need to remedy that very soon...
