Stupendous! The dumbing down project has worked!

RE: Arghhhh!!! Family! Are they the "best" or "Worst"

opa.. "o well," was meant to be: or do well

RE: Arghhhh!!! Family! Are they the "best" or "Worst"

sounds like a microcosm of a phenomenon that occurs in small communities/villages/groups... when one of the group desires to move on, climb another ladder, o well, be different... the rest of the group tries to pull them back in, to prevent their "advancement" or change...

Go for it! Follow your heart. You will be happier for it.

always optimistic, wide awake... can't believe I walked into a few ground floor opportunities in Nic - with the "right" mind set - being accepted by people with the resources to make things happen, life is good. RE: Could the Universe Emerge out of Nothing?

more scientific detail on why there may be more than one universe:

snippets:

1. "Because the observable universe extends only as far as light has had a chance to get in the 13.7 billion years since the Big Bang (that would be 13.7 billion light-years), the space-time beyond that distance can be considered to be its own separate universe. In this way, a multitude of universes exists next to each other in a giant patchwork quilt of universes."

2. "Thus, our own universe, where inflation has ended, allowing stars and galaxies to form, is but a small bubble in a vast sea of space, some of which is still inflating, that contains many other bubbles like ours. And in some of these bubble universes, the laws of physics and fundamental constants might be different than in ours, making some universes strange places indeed."

3. "A further wrinkle on this theory suggests these brane universes aren't always parallel and out of reach. Sometimes, they might slam into each other, causing repeated Big Bangs that reset the universes over and over again."

4. ""And in each universe, there's a copy of you witnessing one or the other outcome, thinking — incorrectly — that your reality is the only reality," Greene wrote in "The Hidden Reality.""

5. ""A mathematical structure is something that you can describe in a way that's completely independent of human baggage," said Max Tegmark of MIT, who proposed this brain-twisting idea. "I really believe that there is this universe out there that can exist independently of me that would continue to exist even if there were no humans.""

RE: I could use your opinion

rolling on the floor laughing The trick to reading stuff like that is to "skim" - don't get stuck on the author's deep seated obsession with left handed geniuses, the origins of things, and the materials (plates) presented. As the author notes, they came full circle in this examination of the VM since the last time they obsessed over it. Nothing extraordinary came forth from this examination. What I found most interesting, besides notes on left handed persons and supposedly left handed devil, was "Leonardo visited Prado during his youth and was therefore aware that not all castles had rectangular shaped battlements" - of course! This statement is so pertinent to who the man really and truly was. The author of the blog is a real genius. Or on drugs. rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Could the Universe Emerge out of Nothing?

Thanks for explaining your ideas again, Serendipity. I think you said something very important that can be used by either side of this conundrum:

"How could we know that energy was not created? There were no observers to verify it"

The theories you are using to bolster your ideas are exactly that, theories. There was nobody around to witness the big bang just as there was nobody around to witness some omniscient being creating the universe. There is nobody around who can prove, scientifically, a god exists.

I have a tendency to read, but not necessarily buy into everything they say, theorists like Stephen Hawking and Michio Kaku. And, according to them, we still know very little. To presume that any of us can know more than these two men, is, IMHO, pretty silly.

Life is a mystery, but that doesn't make god real. It just means there is a whole lot more going on than we can understand with our limited capacity as humans. peace We will have to agree to disagree.

I sincerely did not expect to discover there were some hard feelings over the photo contest. So, I started wondering, is there any reason there can't be more than one photo contest thread? dunno

RE: Could the Universe Emerge out of Nothing?

Karlos:

"My opinion is that maybe the Universe always existed and is ageless and limitless in size. It could be that the processes such as star formation and life have cycles which exist within the Universe but the Universe has always been there. Think about it. In over 30 years, the Voyager spacecraft have travelled through space and still have not left the solar system.

Maybe we just need to change our perception "

Exactly.

Who are we to say we know anything about our existence. Michio Kaku made a very good point about what you say, Karlos, in regards to how much of space we have explored while making grand claims about what we know - truhtfully, we know so very little - we are really very much in the dark about the truth of our existence.

What if... just imagine, what if this "god" some claim is the progenitor of our existence turns out to be some other form of life in the universe (dare I say it... an alien). doh

The idea is to get more people interested in the photo contest - which is an ongoing deal - not my fault it isn't well known - I'm a relative newcomer there (it's an Aussie thing I think). I'd love to see more people enter - please be kind and visit the thread, feel free to vote, and be ready to enter the next contest.

I'm voluntarily promoting it here because nobody else does.

curious comments, could you explain more?

RE: Could the Universe Emerge out of Nothing?

Pure energy. Orgone perhaps? A kid with a science kit?

Energy can not be destroyed, so, why is it not possible the universe (or all universes) spring from eternal energetic forces? Do we need to anthropomorphize and explain everything? Why can't some things be a mystery? teddybear

non and virgo - glad to see you have an interest in the contest. It's in memory of a man who used to be a member, Buddy Blackwelders. He was really into nature. So his friends in CS keep him alive through the photo contest, which is in the voting stage now. The winner of this round gets to choose the next theme/category.

So, get your camera ready or hunt up some nature pics to share for the next round! And please vote for your fave five in this round.

I have a feeling there's quite a few who don't know about he contest. dunno

Enjoy! peace

RE: ......The best ........

I think, and this is just opinion, it's important to keep the dream alive... it may take years but why compromise on desire/dreams/feelings? If we think we can achieve something, why dampen it with possible obstacles? So, a person wants to have that one last love, 'til both move along... nothing wrong with that, most of us know our dreams may be altered... takes courage to stick with your aspirations. Don't let the concept that reality may interfere get in the way of pursuing your dream. peace

applause these are good words for people to embrace:

"with a little patience and time we can get together with with what our hearts desire , a full and loving life with your love of your life till you die and go to your grave with a smile on your face and all your loved ones will be there to see you off"

the only thing that matters in my life - is to experience exactly that. Soon... soon... soon... I'm on my way, and it shall be.

Love positive thinking. It's a great re-enforcer of what we truly are - loving human beings. peace Hope you find yours soon, I know you've got all the patience you think is required to wait as long as you think you need to wait, but, soon isn't a bad thing. teddybear

RE: ......Just great.....

ah, well, here's a suggestion - maybe women from the permaculture crowd would be more your type? they tend to like country over city life... just a thought. and, eventually, if everything works between you and that special person, citizenship may have to happen anyway. but, obviously it isn't the first thing you want to do, get married right off the bat.

I know couple in AK, they met online, she's from China. He brought her over, they got married, and nearly every day when he was away, she would tell me how much she missed her culture and wanted to be in a China Town and not a small native village in long inter Alaska. I'd be surprised if they are still together now that the five year period has passed. doh

RE: ......Just great.....

RE: .......phone call.....

actually, Virgo, I had cell phones in the past - the numbers get recycled, so, it may be someone else had your number before you. I know because I kept getting calls from bill collectors and spanish speakers asking for people I did no know, but whose number was my number.

Sounds like the company should rethink their logistics for contacting customers.
