RE: Modern Mantra - Govinda

First of all let me thank you for this blog; It has been long while when I last heard this ...

It is bhajan(Indian devotional song)in sanskrit language for
Lord Krishna - one of very popular figure in Hinduism. Very playful, practical and colorful personality.

For you to understand/appreciate significance of this song, you would need to read and understand alot about vedic religion or atleast about Krishna.

This video is playing a very small stanza somewhere in the middle of actual song. It is more like telling various life incidents of Lord Krishna, in form of a song.

Anyway I am writing lyrics from what I understand and its meaning:

Song stanza :

kridantam antar-vrajam atmanam svam
samam vayasyaih pasu-pala-balaih
premna yasoda prajuhava krsnam
govinda damodara madhaveti

Meaning :

In Vraja-dhama(place where krishna spent his childhood), Krishna was playing with his playmates - the shepherd boys of his age who protected the animals.
With great love, Mother(of Krishna) Yasoda called out to her own son, “O Govinda, Damodara, Madhava!” (different names for krishna)
