Also, There were a lot of last names that were given because of where a person lived or more so by the trade that they performed for their community. In the States though most of the names that we have, have little to no realy meaning because most of the names were changed by the people that came over here as a way to get lost in the system and start their lifes over. Now the last name i think has little other purpose than law and customs reasons... especailly in the age of our SSNs being our IDs
