I totally agree. Made it clean in my profile that a photo (a clean fhoto, not just a wee spot in the background with an undirline ´that´s me´) is a must. It´s hard enough as it is making decent contact this way.
What else? Eeeeeeehhhm let's see, cheering up? No really, I am not ridiculing your desire to meet 'someone' but gals that are in a good place mentally sense that you are not in the right state of mind right now to let someting positive grow.... It's not about killing time now is it. I mean women are human beings and not just things to kill your time with. What added value do you have to offer? Go do some voluntary work and you will meet plenty of people.
