men should do the first move and should be encouraged to do so... for the dim ones a sign on the girl's forehead with an arrow pointing down and saying : Ask for a date now! might be useful but a woman would not want a dim one, what is the use of a dim one?

How can a man know when a woman is interested? In my opinion that’s easy… (well, I’m a woman, aren’t I, so I should know) a woman shows interest by asking things and sometimes even putting aside other things in order to either be or talk to the person she’s interested in.
When a woman expects a move from a man but doesn’t get it, she waits for a while, not long, to give the man a chance (if she’s interested) and if she’s not she just moves on as he’s obviously not interested. It’s not the big moves that show how interested one is but the little ones and also perseverance.
Step children are tricky I suppose but women on the whole tend to have room for everybody (again my opinion) so although I can’t answer for her I’m sure she must have loved your daughter, but perhaps not as much as you love her; let me put it this way: in case of fire, she’d save hers first if she had to choose but she’d prefer to save hers and yours at the same time.
Once thing is “love” and another is “like” I love my children but sometimes I don’t like them. I don’t stop loving them, that would be like asking me to stop breathing but it’s like when you go into the street and smell fumes… you hold your breath and then breathe again.
