National Recovery Plan 2011-2014
In November 2010 the Irish Government published the National Recovery plan, which aims to restore order to the public finances and to bring its deficit in line with the EU target of 3% of economic output by 2015. It involves a budget adjustment of €15 billion (€10 billion in public expenditure cuts and €5billion in taxes) over a four-year period. This will be front loaded in 2011 where measures totaling €6 billion are planned. VAT is to increase to 23% by 2014 and a property tax and domestic water charges are to be introduced.

To date we all know it's not exactly working well, in fact it's having the opposite effect...(wonder if our beloved leader & cronies will ever read this?? we live in hope..) Please find below my suggestion for fixing the Irish economy.

Instead of giving billions of € to banks that will squander the money on lavish salaries and unearned bonuses, use the following plan:

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 30 thousand people over 50 in the work force. Pay them €1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire within 3 months.
30 thousand job openings - unemployment fixed

2) They MUST buy a new car witihin a year of retirement
30 thousand cars ordered - Car Industry fixed

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage
- Housing Crisis fixed

4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university
- Teachers jobs / building of schools fixed

5) They MUST buy €300 WORTH of food / alcohol / tobacco a week .....
- There's your money back in duty/tax etc

6) They MUST take a 'stayoliday' in Ireland twice a year, for a week each time
- There's the hospitality( & spin off trades)ie: the local economy fixed

7) They MUST buy private medical insurance
- There's a boost for insurance & less pressure on hospitals

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of the Dail pay back their unvouched claimed expenses and take a 50% pay cut

....Also......

Let's put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.

This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 45 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.
They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, fitness room, spiritual counselling, recreational items and education.
Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.
Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.
Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised.
Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay €600 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.

Think about this ... If you don't want to comment on this, for fear of
offending someone -- YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM! It is time for us
ripped off / had enough / grumpy folk of Ireland to speak up!

RE: Who do these Halappanavar people think they are?

He probably also wants to leave our island...we did actually take his beloved away from him, intentional or not - when they should have been celebrating the joy of a new baby...guess we have to try understand his reasoning for his actions even though some of them go against the grain & are harsh mayby unjust & unacceptable...but I do have empathy for him as I have been to that dark place myself...in time he will see the error of some of his ways but for now the irrational rules...I should hope his advisers would be able to see the whole picture & get him to act accordingly...unfortunately all spectrum's of society are now involved emotionally/politically/socially/financially ect & the pond is very muddy at present, not least due to plain negligence & historical ignorance by most of those now involved.

I offer him & the family my condolences on this unfortunate tragedy - some good should come out of it though ...if 1 woman's life and/or the baby, is saved in the future....sure it's all by the grace of God - who ultimately decides

May I take this opportunity to ask all who contribute opinions/ideas/comment on this thread to bear in mind the seriousness of this issue & refrain from the normal cheeky banter...sure the world is watching our responsible actions and the Irish have a tradition of dealing with death with the utmost respect for the deceased & bereaved....I have already had a pint & played some music, shed a tear then smiled a laugh.. on his behalf..to celebrate her rich life, reaped by destiny so soon & the unknown journey she now faces
RIP sad flower
