Same stately home. I was lying in bed one night when I heard footsteps above me. I knew it was the attic area and that no one should be up there so I wasn't prepared to investigate. When I checked the next day, there was just beams across the floor, so nothing to explain the rhythmic stepping. I mentioned what had happened to the old guy who lived in one of the gatehouse. He told me that the last occupant of that room had been found hanging from a ceiling beam. At a later date the floor in that room had been removed along with the floors from other attic rooms to carry out repairs elsewhere in the house.
