In science fiction or similar stories that use the immortal theme, usually there's a few drawbacks - such as the inability to have children. So the world population would stay as it is.
But say this pill was only on offer to people on CS, so the rest of the world could feed themselves as usual.
That's alot of what I was hoping would come out, some great points. That there would be far reaching ramifications - and that essentially you would no longer be the same person, or possibly even human. So in a way, ironically, to become immortal in that fashion means death - the death of the person you were, and your humanity.
Yeah I think family keep a lot of old people going. Sometimes, with old couples, if one partner dies, the other dies within a few days or weeks with no discernible cause of death - other than missing their significant other.
I don't believe in any of that stuff either, but in a way, survival instinct and the will to live are all mortal things. Would they even exist if you were immortal?
Your age would freeze where it is now, you'd be robust and strong, immune to illness.
Ha ha, when you close your eyes, is the world still there? I like to think that if you survive in living memory and are thought well of, a little piece of you carries on.
Wait until "The Grey" comes out. Proper movie that. Haven't seen the artist, but it looked like one of those art flicks that some of the "hollywood types" would wet themselves over. Is it so bad that people with a black sense of humour might find it funny?
Have to agree with most on here. Death is a natural part of life. Everything, absolutely everything that now lives will die. But life will go on much as it always has. It's something that's been made far too much of. Rather than feared; it should be respected, serving as a reminder that we only get one shot.
