My, my... you sure have opened up a can of worms with this one!
I guess the best place to start this discussion would be with funding and then breakdown other issues from there. Canada and the U.S. had similar health care systems before Canada reformed its system in the 1960s and 1970s. The United States spends much more money on health care than Canada, on both a per-capita basis and as a percentage of GDP.
The health care system in Canada is funded by a mix of public (70%) and private (30%) funding, with most end-services delivered by private providers. Certain services are not covered.
It's 3:30 am. But would like to continue this tomorrow.
Alcohol certainly played a role in this and the demographic. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson said he had "never been as disappointed and outraged. From what we saw tonight, it is clear there was a group of people intent on instigating violence and breaking the law. As the night progressed, we saw other people either encouraging them or joining in – a sight that I know disgusted myself and millions of people across our country," he said.
Personally, I feel saddened to see Vancouver’s image as an urban paradise, gained during the Olympics, was shattered on an international scale when these rioters tore the city’s downtown to shreds.
I lived there for almost 5 yrs. This is NOT the Vancouver I know and love. Vancouver police Chief Jim Chu described the instigators as anarchists and criminals who appeared to be the same people involved in the pre-Olympic demonstrations and noted police saw many equipped with goggles, gasoline and other tools to create damage. Many people risked their own safety trying to protect the injured and stop further property damage.
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson blamed the rioting on a small number of troublemakers, and said "they will be held accountable."
I really feel bad for all Vancourites today. Especially after now hard they worked in hosting the Olympics. The whole incident started with a small group of houligans and got completely out of control.
A lesson for us (in Winnipeg) now that we have a hockey team again.
Yes, you are right and these were all young guys who started it.
This happened before with the 1994 Stanley Cup riot, which occurred in Vancouver that year, after the Canucks lost in the seventh game of the Stanley Cup final in New York against the Rangers.
They were planning a big party for sure. Vancouver did well this season, and I know their fans were hoping they would. I'm sure the Vancouver PD will have their hands full for awhile.
Vancouver Riots After Stanley Cup Final! After the Stanley Cup final June 15th, Vancouver fans show their true, disgusting colours by absolutely demolishing cop cars. Tipped police cars, tear gas, fence's being thrown. Everything out of hand!
A father in Utah might just have the title of most embarrassing dad in the world. For 170 days, Dale Price got up every morning during the school year and waved goodbye to his teenage son, Rain, as the school bus rode past the family's front door.
He wore a different costume everyday. He dressed as superheroes, rock stars, a clown, and even put on a wedding dress. His only rule was to never wear a costume twice. The father says the tradition started last August after he and his wife waved goodbye to their son as the school bus went by.
"He came home and he was telling his mother, 'Mom, please, please, please, don't let dad go back at there.' I overheard it, so once I overheard I said, you know what it's on, here we go," said Dale.
The father and son appeared together on 'Good Morning America' Wednesday. In all, Dale spent only $50 on costumes. He borrowed outfits from friends and neighbors. His son said "The Little Mermaid" outfit was the most embarrassing one.
