RE: Saddam

My reply was sent to Puck by the way!

RE: Saddam

Wow! Only Canadians have an opinion on this? Interesting for sure. Look, I am a child of the Vietnam War- my only brother was there for two terms and to this day has not "recovered" from it. And because of his not recovering it has been a very, very hard life for all of us who love him. I say that to say this, I am not in favor of war, however, sometimes I am afraid they may be a necessary evil. Canada has not been attacked....ever....has it? Until you have "walked a mile" be careful of what you say. You saw all the photos and news programs but you didn't smell the death. You didn't walk blocks away from the site and still smell the rotting corpses, did you? Its a very different thing to actually be a part of something so horrible than it is to see it on TV. Trust me on this one. I am not a political person AT ALL and even being an American citizen, I will gladly admit that I don't know or understand SO VERY MUCH of what goes on... but!... Bush was Governor of the state in which I call home. He is a good man, regardless of anything else. Can any of you even begin to imagine how hard it would be to be the leader of The United States? I mean, seriously! It's all well and fine to sit in your comfortable chair and say what should and shouldn't be done on this or that subject. But if you were really sitting in HIS chair, do you still believe it would be so easy? If you do, you're an idiot! And its not like he says "This is what should be done" and its done. There are so many other people who, I believe, make the real decisions. The President of the United States is more of a Figure Head than anything else, in my humble opinion.
As far as Saddam vs The Talaban & Ossama Bin Laden goes- I'm not personally sure who did what. But Saddam did many, many horrible things to his own people for the majority of his "reign". Was it the U.S.'s fight to get into? If they were (Saddam's) people who did what was done to NYC- then Yes, the U.S. most definitely should have been involved. We may be The Big Dog in this world, but we have also always tried to help all the smaller dogs as well. And remember, even as U.S. citizens, we don't even know what all our government does out in the other parts of the world- good or bad. We hear what they want us to hear. I've always believed that. And just for the record- I don't think it was Saddam who was executed. I never will. Pure Evil doesn't die nor can it be killed. Just as Goodness and Love can't either.
All I am saying to you, dear neighbors to the north, or to anyone here in the States be careful HOW and WHO you pass judgement on. Its alot easier to do from the comfort of your own home. Isn't it?

RE: Anyone been in this situation before?

Getting to know someone is hard- even if you see them everyday. Sometimes I believe you get to know more of the REAL person by writing. I think truer feelings can come out that way. (Not just romantic feelings but any feeling you have on any subject) If you and this person have developed a friendship- it will last as long as the two of you do. If it has become more- somehow, some way you will get to see each other face to face. You'll make it happen because you won't be able to imagine it any other way. Its not like we live in The Stone Age any more. Airline travel, when booked far enough in advance, can be quite reasonable. If you want it. You will make it happen.
If she asks you to send her money to help with the expenses though- beware. No matter how long you've talked to her or how well you think you know her!
It sounds like such a cliche but age really isn't much more than a number. Oh sure, there are different levels of wisdom we gain at different periods of our lives, but all in all, each of us are just trying to figure things out and get along as best we can.
