I do belive that he proboly once was sincere with his words. However from your description He does not follow throu with his intentions this can be a number of resons ( 1 ) he is attracted more to the mental image of a relationship were he can dream and create any story he wishes (2) he can fear that if it becomes an reality it might destroy is phantasy (3) he has no courage in his heart to commit to any thing greater than himself. A truly brave man relized that to live is to love and to love is to die a brave man loves deeply and faces death and than he must love again. A coward loves nothing but himself and is fearful of any form of commitment to any thing greater than himself .
