Won't be surprised if he is actually from SA! Those are the things that South Africans usually complain about... And particularly those that have jumped ship. I've rarely ever seen a foreigner get our local issues as accurate as that
Depends on whether my response is going to be positive/funny/light-hearted vs serious/stern/possibly negative. In the first instance, I'm quick! In the second I'm slow and calculating
Lots of people in the west have the impression that Africa is one big country. I get that a lot! One person asked me who the president of "Africa" is. I asked, "You mean the president of my country, South Africa?" He said, "No, I mean who is in charge of the whole of Africa?" I had to explain that there are 54 independent countries in Africa with their own leaders.
(As an aside, the person who asked was a US university graduate working for a global company. Another colleague with the same credentials was confused when we spoke of Bangladesh in the Cricket World Cup - He asked, "But isn't Bangladesh a city in India? How can a country have 2 teams in the World Cup? I was beside myself!)
