that's exactly what i'm talking about. if you have a heart attack in canada they give you meds and send you home. here they admit you, medicate, operate if neccessary, monitor you until you're in the clear and then send you a bill in the mail. this happened to my grandfather while he was here visiting myself and some of my other family that lives here. he was so grateful that it happened here instead of a month later when he was home in canada because we all knew that he would have died if that happened. and you know what he gladly took the $40k medical bill.
i was born in windsor ontario. i'm a canadian. canada is great at a few things. their education system is far superior to america's. it's an amazingly envirnmentally friendly country. and hockey. health care isn't one of them. everyone in my family is canadian and 3 are doctors and they all agree on the health care in canada. you can't argue with people that have to use the system they work for. they are far more educated in the pros and cons than either of us
i'm canadian. i lived in canada for 25 years...believe me you don't know health care up there. my uncle is a doctor in ontario. he's only ever needed one thing done, but you would think with all of his connections he could make some phone calls and stay in canada to have it done. he chose to fly to the mayo clinic and pay cash because of the promtness and the level of technology here. canada is literally 10 years behind in technology in most hospitals because their is no competition to drive drug and technology companies to make the best products. and the only time they charge for an ambulance in canada is if it is a so called 'false alarm'.
live in canada and get sick....then tell me socialised health care is a good thing...anyone who says it is have never had any health care. period. because those of us who are paying for our healthcare are getting screwed. i for one am opting out a government obamacare and paying my private insurance so i can actually get decent care. i'm angry because the health care was one of the few things still done right in the US.
i'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. one of my family members is a doctor in canada and even he flies over the border and pays cash for anything he needs. i think it makes a pretty good point when a doctor in a country with socialised health care and all of his connections would still opt to pay in another county for any and all procedures he needs. in your country you may have a good system but the obama plan is modeled after canada's plan and canada's plan is horrible. the US doesn't even have enough money for the current medicaid plan, how is it going to have money for this new bill? because our premiums sure won't cover all costs. the problem with people supporting socialised health care is they don't realise the quality for what they get now and don't understand how poor it is in canada. i lived there for over 20 years and i love the american health care system. i pay for my own insurance and i couldn't be happier. the quality is far superior. i'll pay whatever they want for good health care. i feel sorry for people without health care but i'm not willing to put my tax dollars to work funding them. tell you what. go to canada and have a heart attack. when they send you home with a bottle of pills and you die that night or the next day at least you can say you didn't have a bill. here they get you in to emergency cardiac unit, treat you, monitor you for days and give you a $40,000 bill...i'll take the bill and be healthy
i'm very liberal but unless you've lived in a country with socialized health care you don't understand what it does to the quality of care for everyone. sure people that can't afford it get it...but if you're on welfare get a job and pay for it. for rest of us it means lower quality and longer waits. the insurance and drug companies stop making money which means they won't compete to make the best products/technology. advancements are made at a crawl instead of leaps and bounds. doctors don't get paid as much so they leave. look at canada. the health care is horrible and the technology is 10 years behind. as it is right now if you need an mri or a ct scan you walk down the hall to get one. in a socialized system it will be a 6-8 month wait...thats long enough to die... the only thing socialized countries do properly is education. everything else is a joke. the US unfortunately is the opposite so now you have a handful of really good systems and a bunch of poorly educated people doing things like this and even less educated people supporting them.
