Thank you for your response. After reading all the others though, I have decided to leave CS permanently. I posted a profile to hopefully get to know some new people. I talk in forums because it stimulates my mind.
IMO...and I believe I'm still entitled to have one, these forums are nothing more than what happens in most chat rooms, and I find that quite boring.
I guess unless one has actually participated in truly thoughtful forums, such as the one's I am going back to, any further explanation of how they work elsewhere is a waste of time. No, I was not kicked out. I stumbled across this site while searching for FORUMS (go figure) & thought I'd check it out. Plain and simple.
I did like the format here. Too bad about the rest...

OMG. Since I'm much more into Forums than chat rooms, I never even checked for chat rooms. But after tonight's issues, I looked up top. What do I see? "CHAT"
Why don't the folks who want to visit with each other go there? I suppose not enough newbies to pick on? No...I'm sure others would visit the room, then you all can pounce! How fun for you!
Well, I didn't come here to make friends, or enemies either. In real forums people discuss things, and if a friendship happens, that's on the side. It's not supposed to be friends talking all over the place, and maybe a topic works into the convo. That is for CHAT ROOMS.
In other forums I have used, we would actually talk about topics. It was very fun and interesting. If over time you decide to get to know someone better, you email them. You don't just start blabbing all over a thread.
The cliques talking all over the threads here, really take away from the forums. Those folks could be respectful of others, and email each other, or IM each other, or create a thread in the CHAT catagory, and leave others to discuss the topics. But they clearly have no manners, and the real kicker is...no one else seems to care!!!
Just make friends with them, be patient and tolerant? Why? They don't own this place. It's here for ALL OF US. But so many passive people willing to settle. Well NOT me.
If you'd like to have intelligent discussions on a variety of topics, try a diferent site. Email me if you want me to name a good one. The format is not as nice as this one, but the people know how to have a discussion, and stay on topic. Of course it gets off topic a little here and there, but usually on something related. Not personal chatter like here.
So it looks like this is a pattern. I'm not surprised. I'm not taking it personally either. I know a pack like this would not be so strong if it had not been going on for a while. That's why I won't even try to fight it. Some people get off by contolling eveything. I understand this. I just chose not to participate. I didn't come here to fight or get beat up. Unfortunately there's been way too much of that in my life.
For the record, jesse has encouraged me (a few times) to try to make friends with the pack. No thanks.
As for the comment about strict rules, and leaving. I never said there should be strict rules. I just wish some people could understand maybe some of us are suffering, or going through something bad, and we came here to take our minds off problems. Not be attacked.

I accept everyone's answers...on topic. I am here to discuss topics, and respect that we all have different opinions. I may not agree with you, and you may not agree with me. That's what makes an interesting discussion. We're all entitled to our opinions. I would never tell someone their opinion is wrong or unacceptable.
I merely asked a question on something I did not understand. Just because others didn't agree with me, is why the thread was hijacked. Not the other way around. As a matter of fact I got very few actual answers to my questions. I doubt people even understand what I was asking. If we had a chance to discuss it, perhaps we could have learned something. I like learning about others. It intrigues me. Tonight I learned some things. Just not what I was asking.
I'm no newbie to forums...or to trolls. I just never had a pack of them totally hijack a forum, or stalk me. This place is pretty weird. IMO!
No sense in going to another topic. I'll just be followed.

These people's idea of fun...is not mine. If I wanted to be around adults who act like children, I could have stayed in any of my old relationships. They act like being at the bar at closing time. Non intelligent, stupid comments. It's pathetic. I was over that behavior many years ago.
I was looking for a little intelligent convo. I guess I'll have to go back to OKC for that. Even the 20 somethings there have excellent grammar and good manners.
Like I said there is a CHAT section if they want to goof around and be silly. Show a little respect for others, and use the forums as they were intended.

I have used other singles sites for quite some time, and I especially love the forums. I recently joined this site, and while most of the time the forums are good, I have noticed there are a few "regulars" who like to hijack any thread they feel like. What I mean is, where I came from people answered questions and gave advice On Topic. Sure, you may make your reply, and then add a "hey good to see you" at the end. Something like that. Then the next person gets back on topic.
I don't know what it is about this place though. You try to have a topic, and certain people jump in and totally take over the thread. Talking to each other...like it's a chat room. Totally off topic...and on each other. I could be wrong but I thought I saw a "Chat" section in forums. Isn't that where that type of banter should be done? They say "we want to have fun" Like they own the place, and all others can just get out. I know lots of 17 year olds who act better.
I might understand if these people were very young. But they aren't. They are old, and seem to feel like they own the place. Heck I chatted in forums elsewhere with 20 somethings all the time and they had much better manners.
I really don't know what the problem is here, and why people can't stay on topic more. I don't mean we have to have strict rules. But when a thread get totally hijacked, that's BS.
Worst yet is...I feel like by posting this, those same regulars will rip me a new one. Seems like a general lack of respect amongst members on this site. Too bad. It seemed kind of cool.
I know this is a rant...hence the title. I would like to participate in forums, but since the same handful of people like to monopolize them, I will probably abstain. Too bad. Could be a nice thing for the rest of us to enjoy.
Sorry, this is a sore subject with me. On the subject of the second letter not sounding like the first. I too have noticed this...in the past. The first letter was well written, and I responded. The next letter was horrible. I was like WTH?!? Obviously a group of scammers!!!
After you get enough of these letters they all sound the same. The person travels for "business". Usually to Africa. Lots of Engineers or in Textiles or trading. Most claim to have a deceased wife & a "kid".
There are the other ones that are just so over the top complimentry. Often referring to God or Angels or the bible or claiming to be "God fearing" or wanting a "God fearing" spouse. YES...they often mention marriage in the first letter too!
In my experience most of them ask you to give your Yahoo ID. They also use very common names. Often two first names like Bill Rogers, or Ted Williams. Not very original. The pics look like magazine pics, and ususally only have ONE.
Being the curious person that I am, I have NEVER fallen prey to any of these dopes. I feel sorry for the less savy people out there who want to be loved so badly, they fall for these schemes. BUT PEOPLE! This site has tons of ads and info all over it Warning about scammers. They have good info, with Examples. READ IT! All of these people should be reported, and maybe someday they will be out of business. Be informed, and be smart!
Gah! You know where they are the WORST? MySpace!!! I can't tell you how many hundred of those generic letters I have received. It has caused me to basically not go to MySpace anymore. It's aweful!!!
FYI - I asked a serious question. Not serious like a fire, but serious like I wanted REAL answers to the questions that I asked. So many people cannot focus long enough to answer a simple question. I guess THAT is my answer.

If they decide to post as their other photos, it's no biggie. That way I have the option of looking at them. Not like having them all up in my face (your default) all day. If I wanted that, I'd visit those "other sites".
That's off topic though. I really just wanted to know how many women like or dislike them. Not too many men seem to be able to explain what they are trying to say with their shirtless pics. I'm guessing I already know...

Oh my goodness. That was very sweet! I am giving, and for many years it did me no good, but to be used and taken for granted. Once my son came along I decided I would never allow that again.
