Yes I have. I went to meet my bf (at the time) irl and other than a 26 hour travel time, things were fine. Call ahead to find out what you need as far as visa, passport, etc. We had an awesome time finally being together.
BTW I was flying from USA to Lebanon, so I understand the halfway around the world thing.
Why wouldn't it be possible? You talk to the other person, learn about them, who they are, what they're about. Falling in love doesn't require constant face to face meetings, it requires only a connection between two hearts. Once the connection and the love is there, meeting face to face usually only confirms the feelings between the two people and strengthens the bond.
Call me a lost romantic if you will, but yes it happens and quite often.
