granted, i've only been in the army for a year, but i've enjoyed it. the guys at my unit have become like my brothers and fathers. we always take care of our own and watch each other's six. i'm national guard, and would advise you to go guard for your state as well. i could list the pro's and con's, but suffice to say that my friends from basic that are active duty say it blows. as guard, you can have a social life. if you have a wife/girlfriend and children, guard is also the better way to go. plus, you get incentives and perks from the state that active doesn't. guard is state-funded, not federal. but whatever you choose, remember that this is no small commitment and requires a great deal of sacrifice and patience. you will be pushed beyond your breaking point.
